Who are we?
SISSA (Scaccare Inter Studioses Stimulat Amicitiam) is an active, very friendly, but also competitive chess club. With us, you can enjoy a game of chess in a relaxed atmosphere.
Whether you want to play classical games against other Sissans, take part in competitions, or just drop by occasionally for a drink with some blitz games — everyone is welcome.
Internal competition
At Proeflokaal Hooghoudt, the internal competition (click here for more info and standings) is played on Monday evenings for the club championship (games do not count for rating).
Our competition leader does their best to pair everyone with a suitable opponent every Monday evening for games of 90 or 60 minutes (+30 seconds increment per move). You will encounter players of all levels here, from beginner to GM.
Unlike many other clubs, it’s not completely silent during games at SISSA — there’s music playing and a relaxed, social atmosphere.
After a game finishes, people often play some blitz games or even a card game.
On the last Monday of the month, a different competition format is played, such as blitz or rapid.
External competition
Our external home matches are played at the Denksportcentrum; Saturday afternoons at 13:00 for the KNSB teams and Friday evenings at 20:00 for the NOSBO teams. Away matches for KNSB are also on Saturdays at 13:00, while NOSBO matches can be on any weekday evening.
In 2014, SISSA made its debut in the Meesterklasse, the highest chess division in the Netherlands. We are now one of the largest chess clubs in the North and even have a women’s team. Each year, teams are also formed for the NOSBO competition, so there is a suitable team for every level.
