At our club

JSV SISSA is an active club with around 105+ members as of 2026. Among our members, we organise various competitions such as the internal competition, the rapid competition, and the blitz competition.

In addition, we organise tournaments, training sessions, women’s chess, and beginner chess, where non-members are also welcome. Check the calendar for all upcoming events.

The internal competition

Every Monday evening from 20:00 you can visit Proeflokaal Hooghoudt to play a game. In general, we play one long game with 60 or 90 minutes per player on the clock.

On the last Monday of the month, we often play a different format, such as rapid, blitz, or even bughouse chess. See the calendar to know what to expect.

Women’s chess

It is important to us that women feel welcome at the club. Chess is a mind sport where men still dominate in numbers — let’s change that.

At SISSA, women also participate in regular events, but we also organise a dedicated women’s chess evening every month. Would you like to join?

Beginner chess

On the first Tuesday evening of every month, SISSA organises a casual chess evening at 20:00 in Proeflokaal Hooghoudt where beginners and casual players can drop in for free and without obligation to play against each other.

Rapid, blitz and cup competitions

The internal competition runs throughout the entire chess season. But it is certainly not the only thing we organise. In addition to the internal competition, you can also participate in:

We also have a bughouse competition, hand-and-brain matches, and every summer we run the immensely popular Summer Chess competition.

Summer Chess

Every summer, the popular Summer Chess competition takes place. Members and non-members compete weekly for fun or for the daily prize. And of course, standings are kept as top players battle for the coveted first place.

Training

We usually start our internal evenings with a training session. This can be a SISSA member sharing lessons from a game, or a Grandmaster challenging you to calculate more accurately.
